This colorful oasis is one of the best spots to enjoy a sunrise in all of Portugal. Golden sands, cerulean, crystal clear waters and marvelous rocks rising from the ocean make for a striking sight on those early mornings when the light is just peeking over the horizon. It’s become more commercial in recent years, but it still hasn’t lost its charm.

Adraga has become a popular surf spot thanks to the Atlantic breakers that roll into the coast of Europe here. It’s also home to some pretty magnificent cliffs right up against the sands and a unique restaurant built right into the side of one. The clams here are to die for.

Falesia is known for its gorgeous red cliffs providing a backdrop to one of the longest beaches in Portugal. The area is still thought of as a small beach town rather than a touristy hotspot, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy some golden sand without all the crowds of some more popular spots. Miramar is a favorite among Portuguese but not as well known among international tourists, so it’s a great place to visit for a more authentic feel. The area boasts one of the country’s best 9-hole golf courses, upscale dining and great architecture. Miramar is also home to Capela do Senhora Pedra, a 17th century chapel located right on the beach. Winter is a great time for surfers to explore the waves, while summer is when locals come to unwind while soaking up the rays.
